Development storyThe unproduced Electronic R2-D2 Figure reflects Kenner’s repeated effort to push familiar Star Wars characters beyond static or manually operated toys. R2-D2 was an obvious candidate for electronic treatment because the character’s identity already depended on lights, sounds, movement, and machinery on screen.
