Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Ranney Index websites, applications, databases, memberships and related services. By accessing or using a Ranney Index service, creating an account, or purchasing a membership, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Ranney Index services

Ranney Index provides independently researched reference information, rankings, collector information, historical material, market observations and related tools. Individual subject areas may be offered as separate Ranney Indexes, including current and future collectible, instrument or other reference indexes.

Features, coverage, records, methodologies and presentation may be revised as the service develops.

2A. Free research access and free accounts

Ranney Index may make selected complete research records available publicly without payment or an account. The Kenner Star Wars public showcase currently includes 20 complete Production records and 20 complete Development records. Publicly available selections may change as the research collection evolves. Other records may offer a limited public reference view.

Creating a free account is separate from purchasing a membership. Registration alone does not authorize a membership charge, start an automatically renewing subscription or grant access to member-only records and tools. A user may create an account and decide whether to purchase access at a later time. A cancelled or incomplete checkout does not by itself create a paid membership.

3. Memberships, pricing and multiple Index subjects

Ranney Index memberships are generally offered by subject. The Vintage Kenner Star Wars Index currently costs US$19.99 for a 12-month membership. The renewal method depends on the payment option selected at checkout: eligible PayPal subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, while the one-time credit or debit card option requires manual renewal. Prices and renewal arrangements for future Ranney Index subjects may differ and will be stated before purchase.

Ranney Index may also grant complimentary, promotional, contributor, review or other no-charge access. Complimentary access is an entitlement granted by Ranney Index, is not treated as a paid purchase, may have a stated expiration date or be ongoing, and may be extended or ended by Ranney Index according to the terms under which it was granted.

The Vintage Kenner Star Wars membership currently includes two connected research areas within that single subject membership: the Production Index and the Development Index. Those areas are not separate Kenner purchases.

You may maintain memberships to more than one Ranney Index subject at the same time. A membership to one subject does not automatically grant access to another subject unless a specific bundle, promotion or account benefit expressly says that it does.

Some compatible Ranney Index subjects may later be eligible for a multi-Index bundle or upgrade, but not every Index will necessarily be bundle-compatible. Any bundle will identify exactly which subject memberships it includes, together with its price, renewal and upgrade terms, before purchase.

If a membership is purchased through an application store, payment platform or other third-party billing channel, that provider may also apply its own billing, renewal, cancellation and refund rules to the transaction. Where those rules are legally required to control a transaction, they will apply in addition to these Terms.

4. Renewal, cancellation and access period

The current Vintage Kenner Star Wars web membership provides 12 months of access for US$19.99. A PayPal subscription renews annually until cancelled; users may cancel its automatic renewal without losing the remainder of an already-paid term. A one-time credit or debit card purchase does not renew automatically; another purchase is required to extend access after that term. Cancelling future renewal prevents the next subscription charge but does not shorten an already-paid access period, unless an independently valid restriction applies.

Ranney Index may occasionally offer promotional or reactivation pricing to eligible former members. Any such offer will state its price, duration and applicable terms when it is made.

5. Refunds

Annual membership purchases are non-refundable except where a refund is required by applicable law or where Ranney Index expressly states otherwise. Cancelling a membership prevents future renewal but does not create a prorated refund for unused time in the current paid term.

6. Accounts and personal use

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for activity performed through it. Ranney Index may create, grant, extend, suspend, end or correct account entitlements where reasonably necessary to administer paid, complimentary, promotional or support access. Memberships are intended for the individual account holder unless Ranney Index offers a separate business, dealer, store, team or institutional plan. You may not share credentials in a way that provides subscription access to people who have not purchased or otherwise been granted that access.

Ending, revoking or allowing a membership to expire does not automatically delete the underlying account or membership history. Ranney Index may retain the account holder's name, email address and inactive membership status/history for account administration, support, reactivation, fraud prevention and appropriate business-record purposes, subject to the Privacy Policy and applicable deletion rights.

7. Rankings, values and research information

Ranney Rank, Collector Index scores, market values, sales histories, rarity observations, production information, Development Index evidence, provenance notes, historical commentary and other research are reference information based on available evidence and Ranney Index methodology. They are not guarantees of value, authenticity, condition, future price, investment performance or resale outcome.

Not every record uses the same research tools. Development records may be evaluated through documentary evidence, provenance, surviving material, production outcome and verified transactions rather than ordinary production-product scoring.

Market conditions and historical understanding change. Ranney Index may revise scores, estimates, biographies, records, classifications and other information when new evidence becomes available or when methodology is improved.

8. No appraisal, investment or purchase guarantee

Ranney Index is not a substitute for a professional appraisal, authentication service, financial adviser or inspection of a specific item. You remain responsible for evaluating any purchase, sale, trade, insurance decision or other transaction involving an item referenced by the service.

9. Corrections, submissions and contributions

Users may contact Ranney Index with corrections, sources, documented sales, variant information, historical material, photographs or other suggestions. Submission does not guarantee publication, credit or acceptance. Ranney Index may review, verify, edit, summarize, reject or incorporate submitted factual information into its research.

By submitting material, you represent that you have the right to provide it and that doing so does not knowingly infringe another person’s rights. Unless separately agreed in writing, submitting information or imagery does not transfer ownership of your original copyrighted material to Ranney Index. If Ranney Index accepts contributor photography or other licensed material, its use will be governed by the permission, license or collaboration terms applicable to that material.

10. Intellectual property, methodology and database use

The Ranney Index name, logos, site design, original graphics, Ranney Exclusive biographies, original editorial material, database organization, compiled research presentation and other original service content are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

Published Ranney Index scores, conclusions and commentary may be discussed, reviewed, compared and quoted in reasonable excerpts with appropriate attribution. Ranney Index does not claim ownership of historical facts, product names, dates, publicly documented sale amounts or other facts merely because they appear in the service.

The proprietary Ranney Index process used to create rankings, collector evaluations and related outputs is not licensed for reproduction. Without written permission, you may not copy, reproduce, reverse-engineer or use Ranney Index scoring frameworks, weighting systems, evaluation procedures, classification architecture, audit workflows, normalization methods, internal research procedures or other non-public methodology to create a substantially similar or competing ranking, valuation or reference system.

Ranney Exclusive biographies and substantial portions of original Ranney Index editorial or research content may not be reproduced, republished or redistributed without written permission. Brief quotation for commentary, criticism, scholarship, news reporting or ordinary discussion is permitted where legally allowed and should identify Ranney Index as the source.

Except for material expressly identified as Ranney Index-owned content, Ranney Index does not claim ownership of third-party trademarks, characters, product artwork, packaging artwork, promotional imagery, photographs or other protected material appearing or referenced in the service. Star Wars and other third-party intellectual property remain the property of their respective rights holders.

You may use the service for ordinary personal reference. You may not systematically scrape, harvest, copy, mirror, bulk-download, extract, reconstruct, republish, resell, license or commercially redistribute a substantial portion of the database, paid content, classification structure or compiled research without written permission. You also may not use substantial Ranney Index content to populate, train, seed or operate a competing commercial database, ranking system or reference service except as permitted by law or written agreement.

11. Third-party services, sources, images and links

The service may rely on third-party operational providers for functions such as hosting, databases, email delivery, security, analytics, payments, application distribution or other technical services necessary to operate Ranney Index. Those providers process information only as needed to provide their services and may be subject to their own terms and policies.

Ranney Index may record or reference image sources found through publicly accessible marketplaces, auction archives, manufacturer resources, collector references and similar sources for identification, research, historical reference and collector documentation. Public availability does not mean that an image is in the public domain or automatically cleared for reproduction. Source metadata may therefore be retained even when the underlying image is not displayed.

Where an image is displayed, Ranney Index evaluates display permission or other applicable rights separately from the fact that the source page is public. Where practical, Ranney Index provides source attribution or a source link, but a source link does not necessarily identify the legal copyright owner.

Ranney Index may also display photographs or other material supplied or licensed by collectors, photographers, archives, manufacturers or collaborators. Unless ownership is expressly transferred in writing, applicable rights remain with the contributor or rights holder and Ranney Index uses the material according to the permission or license granted.

If you believe an image or other material has been attributed incorrectly or should not appear in the service, please contact Ranney Index so the matter can be reviewed promptly.

12. Acceptable use

You may not use the service to interfere with its operation, bypass access controls, probe or exploit security weaknesses, automate abusive requests, impersonate another person, submit unlawful material, or use the service in a way that materially burdens the platform or other users.

Automated access intended to scrape, harvest, enumerate, mirror or reconstruct Ranney Index records, member-only content, database structure or proprietary methodology is prohibited unless Ranney Index has expressly authorized that access in writing.

13. Availability and changes to the service

Ranney Index aims to maintain reliable access but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Maintenance, hosting interruptions, data corrections, feature changes and other events may temporarily affect availability. Ranney Index may add, modify, retire or reorganize features and content over time.

Because Ranney Index is a living online reference, records, market data, classifications, biographies, Development research and other server-provided content may be corrected or expanded without requiring the user to install a new application version. Changes to native application capabilities or other software-level features may require an updated app release.

14. Suspension or termination

Ranney Index may restrict or terminate access where reasonably necessary to address fraud, abusive account sharing, security threats, unlawful activity, material violations of these Terms or conduct that threatens the service or its users. Where practical, we may provide notice and an opportunity to correct the issue.

15. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided for informational and reference purposes. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Ranney Index does not warrant that every record is complete, current or error-free, and is not responsible for losses arising solely from reliance on rankings, market estimates, historical information, third-party content or purchasing decisions made using the service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

16. Privacy

Use of the service is also subject to the Ranney Index Privacy Policy, which explains what information is collected, why it is collected, how it is used and the choices available to users.

17. Changes to these Terms

Ranney Index may update these Terms when the service, membership structure, laws or business practices change. The current version and effective date will be posted here. Material changes affecting paid memberships will be communicated as required by applicable law.
