Question 1

How much does a Ranney Index membership cost?

Accepted Answer

Unless a different price is clearly shown at checkout, an individual Ranney Index membership is US$19.99 per year and renews annually until cancelled. Each subject-specific Index is normally offered as its own annual membership. Ranney Index may also grant complimentary access without charge.

Question 2

What is Ranney Rank?

Accepted Answer

Ranney Rank evaluates the underlying product itself. The criteria vary by Index and are designed to answer how strong the item is within its category without allowing rarity, hype or sale price to inflate the product-quality score.

Question 3

What is the Collector Index?

Accepted Answer

The Collector Index evaluates collector significance rather than product quality. Depending on the subject, it can consider rarity, surviving scarcity, demand, historical importance, market activity, completeness difficulty and authentication risk.

Question 4

How are market values determined?

Accepted Answer

Ranney Index emphasizes completed transactions and other credible market evidence rather than asking prices alone. Where practical, values are organized by condition.

Question 5

What is the difference between a Release and a Variant?

Accepted Answer

A Release is a different commercial presentation of the same underlying item, while a Variant is reserved for a meaningful physical difference in the collectible itself.

Question 6

Can a company, seller or advertiser pay for a better ranking?

Accepted Answer

No. Advertising, sponsorship, manufacturer relationships, dealer relationships and contributor relationships do not purchase a higher Ranney Rank, Collector Index score or market valuation.
