Copyright, Images & Third-Party Material
Ranney Index combines original research and editorial work with reference imagery from manufacturers, marketplaces, auctions, collectors, archives and other publicly accessible sources.
What Ranney Index owns
Our logos, original graphics, Ranney Exclusive biographies, editorial writing, compiled research presentation, database organization and other original Ranney Index material remain our intellectual property.
What we do not claim
Third-party trademarks, characters, packaging artwork, promotional imagery and photographs remain the property of their respective rights holders.
Contributor material
Images supplied by collectors, photographers, archives, manufacturers or collaborators remain subject to the ownership and permission terms agreed with those contributors.
Ranney Index original content
The Ranney Index name, logos, original graphics, original editorial material, Ranney Exclusive biographies, database organization, compiled research presentation and other material created specifically by Ranney Index are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Published scores, conclusions and commentary are meant to be discussed. Reasonable quotation, criticism, comparison, scholarship and reporting are welcome with attribution. Historical facts, product names, dates and other underlying facts are not claimed as Ranney Index property merely because they appear here.
Substantial reproduction of Ranney Exclusive biographies, original editorial material, compiled research, tables, database content or other original Ranney Index material is not permitted without written permission.
Proprietary Ranney Index process
Ranney Index publishes enough information for readers to understand what its scores and conclusions mean, but the internal process used to produce those results is proprietary. The specific scoring framework, weighting systems, evaluation procedures, classification architecture, normalization rules, audit workflows and non-public research procedures are not licensed for copying or reproduction.
Discussion of a published score is encouraged. Recreating the underlying Ranney Index process, reverse-engineering it for a competing system, or using substantial Ranney Index methodology or database structure to build a substantially similar commercial service is not permitted without written permission, subject to applicable law.
Database extraction and automated use
Ordinary browsing and personal reference use are welcome. Systematic scraping, harvesting, mirroring, bulk extraction, database cloning or commercial redistribution of substantial Ranney Index content is not permitted without written permission.
Ranney Index content may not be used in bulk to populate, seed or operate a competing commercial database, ranking system or reference service except where permitted by law or written agreement.
Third-party images and intellectual property
Ranney Index may display or reference photographs, packaging artwork, advertisements, promotional materials, trademarks, characters, product artwork and other visual material owned by third parties. Except where material is expressly identified as Ranney Index-owned content, Ranney Index does not claim ownership of that third-party material.
Star Wars and other third-party names, characters, trademarks, logos, packaging artwork and related intellectual property remain the property of their respective rights holders. Their appearance within Ranney Index is for reference, identification, research, historical or collector-documentation purposes and does not imply ownership, sponsorship or endorsement by the applicable rights holder.
Marketplace, auction and publicly accessible imagery
Some reference images or image-source records may be located through publicly accessible marketplaces, auction archives, manufacturer resources, collector references and similar sources. Public accessibility does not mean that an image is in the public domain or that Ranney Index has permission to reproduce it. Copyright or other rights may still belong to the photographer, seller, manufacturer, archive, platform or another rights holder.
Ranney Index may retain source-page and provenance information for research even when the image itself is not displayed. Where an image is shown, its use is evaluated separately from the fact that the source page is public. Where practical, we provide a source link or attribution showing where the reference was found. A source link does not necessarily identify the legal copyright owner of the image.
Source links and attribution
Where an image is retrieved from an external source, Ranney Index may provide a link to the originating page, listing, archive or other source. These links are intended to document provenance of the reference image and help users understand where the material was found.
External pages may change, move or disappear over time. Ranney Index is not responsible for the continued availability or accuracy of third-party pages.
Contributor and licensed photography
Ranney Index may collaborate with collectors, photographers, archives, manufacturers, dealers or other organizations that supply photographs or other visual material. Unless ownership is expressly transferred in writing, the contributor or applicable rights holder retains ownership of that material.
Ranney Index uses contributed or licensed imagery according to the permission, license or collaboration terms under which it was provided. Credit may be displayed where required by the agreement or where appropriate to recognize a significant photographic or archival contribution.
Rights-holder requests
If you are a photographer, copyright owner, trademark owner, archive, manufacturer or other rights holder and believe that material appearing in Ranney Index has been attributed incorrectly, used outside the permission granted, or should not appear in the service, please contact us.
We will review good-faith requests promptly. Depending on the circumstances, Ranney Index may correct attribution, update a source, replace an image, remove the material, request additional information or take another appropriate action.
No transfer of rights through submission
Submitting a photograph, document, correction or other material to Ranney Index does not automatically transfer ownership of that material. By submitting material for review, you represent that you have the right to provide it. Any broader publication or licensing arrangement may be documented separately where appropriate.
Editorial, Development Index and research use
Images within Ranney Index are selected to support reference records and collector research rather than to create substitute commercial galleries of third-party photography. The purpose of an image is to help identify, compare, document or explain the item discussed in the accompanying record.
Development Index records may preserve image-source metadata, provenance, captions and evidence relationships even when a visual is not cleared for display. Public Development previews may therefore use a standard Ranney Index Development graphic instead of exposing the underlying evidence image. This allows the research record to remain useful without treating every located image as automatically publishable.
