Hoth Ion Cannon

Hoth Ion Cannon is one of the most mechanically ambitious individual playsets in Kenner’s 1982 Micro Collection. Rather than relying on a single trick, it layers several actions into one Rebel-base environment: an articulated clicking ion cannon, a blast-away wall and a blast door activated through the watchtower. That gives the set a busier, more interactive feel than many of the line’s otherwise highly scene-specific displays. The figure assortment is equally substantial. Eight painted die-cast miniatures populate the base, including Han Solo on Tauntaun, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, a Rebel Commander and four Rebel Soldiers in different poses. The fixed stances are not a limitation so much as the design language of the Micro Collection. Kenner was effectively pre-blocking the movie scene for the child, supplying a tiny cast that already looked as though something urgent was happeni This is the documented first commercial issue for this territory and anchors descendant packaging, variant and reissue records.
