Early Bird Fulfillment Set

Early Bird Certificate Package is one of those vintage Kenner products whose importance becomes clearer when it is placed back into the period that produced it. The Early Bird Certificate Package is the product that launched Kenner’s Star Wars action-figure empire before the figures themselves existed. Sold for Christmas 1977, the package contained a cardboard display and certificate entitling the buyer to receive Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and R2-D2 later by mail. Kenner fulfilled those certificates in early 1978 with a separate white-tray mailer and foot pegs. The index should preserve the retail certificate package and fulfillment contents as linked stages of one historic program rather than collapsing them into a normal four-figure boxed set. Its historical importance is enormous even though the immediate out-of-box play value was intentionally deferred.
