Heroes Van
The Star Wars Heroes Van may be the purest possible expression of 1978 merchandising culture: take Kenner's established SSP racing system, combine it with the era's custom-van craze, cover the result in Star Wars heroes, and send it screaming across the floor. The white van was sold as an individual consumer product and also appeared in the deluxe Star Wars Van Racing Set with the Darth Vader Van. That distinction matters; owning the van by itself was a legitimate retail configuration, not an incomplete racing set. The toy's engineering is SSP rather than action-figure based. Its appeal came from the flywheel/launch system, speed and graphics, not from carrying Luke Skywalker inside. Indeed, nothing remotely like this vehicle appears in the films, which makes it all the more valuable as a snapshot of Kenner's willingness to graft Star Wars onto a proven toy platform. Collector condition This is the documented first commercial issue for this territory and anchors descendant packaging, variant and reissue records.
